The friendly barista behind the counter told us that kolaches (which are baked fresh on site daily) are popular and well-known in Texas, thanks to their population of Czech immigrants. We’re so glad that Brooklyn Kolache Co. brought them to Bed-Stuy. You could try and make them yourself, or you could just go to BKC!

A kolache is a sweet doughy biscuit with yummy fillings. There’s not much more I can say except to go try one! They’re flipping delish. This artsy aesthetic cafe has other cool things going for it as well, like a back room with tables to sit at while you write your next novel, a backyard, and obviously coffee!

Recommendations: Personal fave is the savory Sausage & Cheese kolache. Staff recommends the Love Dip.

Cost: Kolaches fall around the $4 mark (go after 6pm for buy-one-get-one); a cup of coffee is about $2.50.

Where: 520 DeKalb Ave (between Bedford Ave and Skillman St), Brooklyn -
