Clinton Hill

Neighborhood spotlights are a local recommendation with some quick info for must-try spots in our area.

If you’re feeling a little fancy and are craving a cocktail, Mayflower is the speakeasy-style neighborhood spot to indulge. It’s a tiny cocktail bar tucked behind Aita on Greene Avenue in Clinton Hill with seasonal cocktails, wine, and beer. We ordered a few drinks and slipped into a corner table to sip our mixologist’s magic. While there were just a few people there during our visit on a Sunday evening, we’re told it can get pretty crowded on more popular nights.

Recommendations: Any of their seasonal cocktails! If you’re having a tough time deciding, ask the bartender for advice.

Cost: Cocktails are ~$12, select beer and wine available as well for slightly less.

Where: Turn the corner at 132 Greene Ave. on Waverly to find The Mayflower behind Aita - walk from Our Place in 15 minutes!

Mekong BK

Exploring New York highlights cool spots around the city that are worth checking out. This edition takes us to the border of Clinton Hill and Fort Greene for Vietnamese eats.

Mekong BK is a fairly new (and welcome) addition to the Fort Greene dining scene. In an area that can get pricey, Mekong BK offers traditional Vietnamese fare at reasonable prices. Stop by for noodles or a big bowl of pho and then enjoy some drinks at the bar in this relaxing spot.

Recommendations: Bun with crispy spring rolls (vermicelli with delicious sauce); Pho (hearty Vietnamese soup); Bahn Me (Vietnamese sandwich on Baguette with pork and pickled veggies)

Cost: $15 for soup or noodles, $23 for more refined entrees

Where: 250 DeKalb Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11205 - walk from Our Place in 17 minutes or bike in 5

Mike's Coffee Shop Diner

This classic diner in Clinton Hill is the perfect spot to grab some American breakfast. Like a diner should be, it’s cheap and classic. Mike & his brother have run the place for decades, and locals (including Biggie Smalls!) have dined at their counter over the years.

If you’re visiting from abroad and looking to give the Diner experience a try, grab a friend and slide into a booth at Mike’s… or go solo and plop yourself on a stool at the counter. Best for breakfast and a mug of hot coffee that the staff will make sure never empties.

Recommendations: Pancakes, sausage, eggs. You might need to head to the park for a nap after, diner food is HEAVY!

Mike's Coffee Shop Counter
